Day 1: Arrival in Leh
Your trip will start by arriving in Leh. Then, one of our tour representatives will transfer to your hotel. Upon arrival, enjoy welcome drinks and complete check-in and other procedures.
After a long journey, it is crucial to rest and regain strength at Leh’s high altitude of 3500 m. The reason is that the thin air may cause discomfort for some travelers. Rest is essential before starting any sightseeing. Undoubtedly, Leh offers incredible views of the Himalayan ranges and barren topography, which are dotted with monasteries and stupas.
Later in the afternoon, you’ll take a short orientation walk through Leh's busy market, visit Leh Palace, situated on Namgyal Hill, reminiscent of Lhasa’s Potala Palace. The Shanti Stupa is a beautiful white structure built in 1991. It holds Buddha’s antiques and provides breathtaking panoramic views of the town.
After that, return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Monastery Excursions
After breakfast, you’ll head to Spituk Monastery. It was built in the 11th century and is home to 100 monks. It has a hidden statue of Mahakaal, only shown during the Spituk Festival. Next, visit the Hall of Fame museum, which honors soldiers who lost their lives in wars in the region.
Then, have lunch (on your own), and visit the peaceful Sankar Gompa, which is located near Leh. The place is full of impressive Buddha paintings and a unique Avalokiteshwara statue with 11 heads and 1000 arms. After that, return to the hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La
Start your day with a drive to Nubra Valley, passing through Khardung La, the world’s highest motorable road at 5602 meters. Along the way, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Indus Valley and the Zanskar and Saser Massif mountain ranges.
When you reach Nubra Valley, well-known for its sand dunes and double-humped Bactrian camels, you'll be visiting a spot that was once part of the Silk Route.
Check into your hotel or camp in Hunder Village and take some free time to explore the local villages. Dinner and overnight stay in Hunder.
Day 4: Excursion to Turtuk
Today, take a trip to Turtuk, India's northernmost village near the Pakistan border. This remote village, recently opened to tourists, still holds on to its unique Balti culture.
While there, don’t miss to explore apricot orchards and the beautiful Shyok River. Visit a 16th-century mosque with Turkish-Iranian design see an old fort and enjoy views of K2, the second-highest peak in the world. Afterward, return to Hunder for an overnight stay.
Day 5: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake
After having a delicious breakfast, enjoy a camel ride on the Hunder sand dunes. It is surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. Then, visit Diskit Monastery, which is 515 years old and offers amazing views.
Next, travel to Pangong Lake, passing through the beautiful Agham and Shyok Valleys. When you arrive, take in the breathtaking blue waters of the lake, set against the backdrop of brown and grey mountains. Stay overnight at a camp by the lake.
Day 6: Pangong Lake to Leh via Changla Pass
Enjoy a morning at leisure at Pangong Lake, then drive back to Leh via Changla Pass, at an altitude of 5848 meters. En route, visit Hemis Monastery, Thiksey Monastery, and Shey Palace, each offering incredible views and rich Buddhist heritage. Also, stop by Druk Padma Karpo School, made famous by the movie "3 Idiots." Return to Leh for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: Leh to Kargil via Lamayuru
After breakfast, drive along the Leh-Kargil Highway and stop at interesting places like Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill, and the meeting point of the Indus and Zanskar rivers.
Explore Likir Monastery, where you'll find a 25-foot Buddha statue covered in gold, and visit Rizong Monastery, widely popular for its strict rules. Then, head to Lamayuru Monastery, which was built in the 11th century, and enjoy the unique Moonland landscape.
Finally, continue to Kargil for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 8: Kargil to Srinagar via Sonmarg (204 Kms)
After an early breakfast, you’ll drive to Srinagar, passing through Drass, India’s coldest inhabited place, known for its role in the Kargil War of 1999. Enjoy breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, including Tiger Hill and Tololing Peak. Take a moment to honor the brave soldiers at Vijay Smarak.
On your way, you’ll stop at Sonmarg, or "Meadow of Gold," a key location on the ancient Silk Route between Kashmir and China. In winter, it’s covered in soft, white snow, while other seasons bring vibrant flowers and stunning mountain views. You’ll have time to explore this beautiful area before continuing to Srinagar.
Once you arrive in Srinagar, check in at your hotel or houseboat. Spend the evening relaxing and enjoying the sights and markets of the city, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 9: Departure from Srinagar
On the last day of your trip, you have the morning free to enjoy your time in Srinagar. Later, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to your next destination.
Say goodbye to the beautiful lands of Leh and Srinagar, taking with you wonderful memories of breathtaking scenery, rich history, unique culture, and stunning architecture.
