Tour overview

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is one of the eight union territories of India. An Indian archipelago (group of islands) situated at the southeastern edge of the Bay of Bengal holds a unique and distinct appeal. This region comprises 572 islands and is renowned for its palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves, and tropical rainforests.

Geology

Geographically speaking, the Andaman and Nicobar’s entire land area, when added together, is roughly 8,249 km², to the southeast of the Indian subcontinent. The Nicobar Islands are roughly 1,841 km² in extent, while the Andaman Islands are 6,408 km² in total.

The territory is divided into two main groups, the “Andaman Islands” to the north and the “Nicobar Islands” to the south. Port Blair, the capital city, is tucked away on South Andaman Island. People there mainly speak in Hindi, English, Bengali, Tamil, and Malayalam languages.

What About Climate?

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have a tropical climate (monthly average temp. of 18 °C or higher in the coolest month). However, sea breezes there always help to maintain it. Throughout the year, daily temperatures normally rise from the low 70s F (around  23 °C) to the mid-80s F (approx. 30 °C). Around 12 inches (3,000 mm) of rain falls each year on the islands. It happens mostly from the southwest monsoon, which blows from May through September. Later, the tropical cyclones that follow in October and November become the reason for the rainfall.
